Dr Russya Connor
Dr. Russya Connor works as an educator, lecturer, drama therapist and artist. With a diverse background as an award-winning international performer and theatre-maker, she became interested in the healing potential of the arts. in 2006.she completed her Master of Arts In Drama Therapy at Edith Cowan University, Perth and since then has worked as a Drama Therapist and counsellor, in the drug and alcohol sector, with children and at prisons. She has extensive lecturing and facilitation experience. She delivers drama therapy training at non-government agencies, and lectures at universities in contemporary performance, physical theatre and creative arts therapies as well as developing and conducting experiential programs for business,- such as rhythm based interventions tailored to the specific needs of different population groups.
She is passionate about Human development, experiential learning and creative approaches to solving life issues. Her doctoral research at WAAPA (West Australian Academy of Performing Arts) explored how emotions and perceptions can affect our physical and cognitive abilities. She continues to maintain a balance between her work as an artists and therapist and her varied career path informs her practice. Her current creative work blends visual arts, performance art, physical theatre and story-telling.
